Can I go swimming after I get my belly button pierced?

I've been waiting to get my belly button pierced for awhile, but I have jaw surgery coming up in about a week, so I'm getting it done a few weeks after my surgery. My main issue is that I'm also on the swim team, and the season starts in a little over a month. I was wondering when I'd be able to get into the pool, and if it would be ok to just wash it right away afterwards? Please help!
