My jaw hurts (right side only) near the ear?

It doesn't hurt when it's closed but when I open it half way to all the way it hurts so much. It hurts when I suddenly bite (specially near the molars).I don't think it's my wisdom tooth growing cause my gum area doesn't hurt. Could it be my jaw muscles??Please help!! I can't sleep at night.
